Every count of protests that exists for India points the same way. The ACLED event record shows demonstrations up by half since 2016 and at a record in 2024 to 2026. The police's own count of agitations was rising before that. A catalogue of 217 major protests since 2000 shows the rate doubling since the late 2010s. The protests are also more peaceful than a decade ago. What has fallen is rioting, which is a different thing.

ARE INDIANS PROTESTING MORE? YES. HERE IS THE EVIDENCE.

Every count of protests in India points the same way: up. ACLED records half as many again as in 2016, the police's own agitation counts rose before that, and 2024 to 2026 are the busiest years on record. Part 1 of a research series.

From the opening:
“This is the first part of a research series on protest in India. The series asks who is protesting, why now, who pays and who amplifies, and how much of it is engineered. Before any of that can be asked, one question has to be answered with numbers rather than impressions: are Indians protesting more than they used to?”

IRAN IS WAITING FOR THE US MIDTERM ELECTIONS

In 1980, It Waited for the American Election, and It Is Waiting Again.

From the opening:
“On Monday, Trump said his administration had opened a back channel to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The IRGC denied it. On Tuesday, Trump posted this: The Strait is not, in any commercially meaningful sense, open and operating.”
