The Geopolitical Economist

In global geopolitics, truth is one, but the wise interpret it differently. Here, we interpret these diversions.

Privacy policy

What this site collects, why, where it is kept, and how to have it removed. In force from 19 September 2026.

Who is responsible

This website is published by The Geopolitical Economist. The person responsible for the data described here is the editor, who can be reached at [email protected]. Questions, corrections and deletion requests should go to that address.

What we collect, and why

Newsletter subscriptions

When you subscribe, we store the email address you enter, the date, and the page you subscribed from. It is used only to send you the newsletter. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link; you may also write to us to be removed. Addresses are held in storage provided by Cloudflare, Inc. and, for sending, by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, Paris).

Reader comments

When you comment, the name and the text you provide are published on the article page. We also store a hashed identifier derived from your connection, which is not published, cannot be reversed into your address, and is used only to limit abuse and repeat posting. Comments may be removed by the editor. To have a comment deleted, write to us with the article and the comment text.

Submissions to write for us

If you submit a pitch or an article, we store your name, email address and the material you send, including any attached file, in order to consider, edit and publish it. Attached files are deleted automatically after ninety days. If your work is published, your email address is kept privately so that the site can notify you when readers comment; it is never displayed.

Readership statistics

We count which pages are read and roughly how many people read them. For each page view we record the page, the date, the country, the site you arrived from if any, and a short-lived identifier made by hashing connection details together with the date. That identifier cannot be turned back into an address and changes every day, so it cannot follow you over time. No cookies are set for this purpose and no advertising or tracking network receives the data. These figures are seen only by the editor.

Technical logs

The site is delivered by Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses in the ordinary course of serving pages and defending against attacks, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We do not receive those logs.

Cookies and local storage

This site sets no tracking cookies. It uses your browser's local storage, which stays on your own device, to remember three things: your choice of light or dark theme, the name you last used on the comment form, and whether you have already subscribed to the newsletter. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.

Third-party services

  • Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, stores subscriptions, comments and submissions, and routes editorial email.
  • Brevo (Sendinblue SAS) sends the newsletter and the notification emails to authors.
  • Web3Forms relays the submission and subscription forms to the editor's inbox.

Articles may link to external websites, whose privacy practices are their own.

How long we keep data

Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for removal. Comments are kept while the article is published. Submission files are deleted after ninety days; submitted text and correspondence are kept for as long as they are needed to consider or publish the work. Readership records are kept in aggregate; the daily identifiers have no meaning after the day they were made.

Your rights

You may ask what data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to [email protected]. We answer within thirty days. Readers in the European Union, the United Kingdom and other jurisdictions with data-protection law have the further rights those laws provide, including the right to complain to a supervisory authority.

Advertising

The site carries no advertising. Should that change, this policy will be updated first, and any advertising service will be named here.

Changes to this policy

Changes are recorded on this page with the date they take effect. This version takes effect on 19 September 2026.
